probably most well known for the statue of “Buddha head in the vines”, but since there aren’t enough pictures, i took my own 🙂
founded in 1424 by King Borommarachathirat II, on the cremation site for his two older brothers, who killed themselves in a dual over who would inherit the position of king. sometimes it’s good to be the youngest brother.

a short bus ride north of Bangkok is the city of Ayutthaya.
the original plan was to take a bus from Pattaya to the train station in Bangkok, and then a train north.
turns out that there are mini buses at the main bus station, and it would have cost more to take a taxi from the Bangkok bus station to the train station that the tickets for the mini bus directly to Ayutthaya.
i do not fit well inside mini buses, but at least they have air conditioning.
